The proposed solar panel farm is adjacent to the village of Boxted, Suffolk. Boxted is a small rural hamlet on the River Glem. It is a designated Special Landscape Area and part of the Dedham Vale and Stour Valley conservation project.
Due to its unspoilt nature, the area offers outstanding wildlife and tranquil views across the valley enjoyed by walkers, horse riders, locals and visitors.
It is good quality farmland that has been farmed for generations.
The proposed development, by Renewable Energy Solutions (RES), is for the installation and operation of an up to 50MW capacity solar farm. The array is to be comprised of an unspecified number of solar panels over approximately 100 acres of land (the equivalent to approximately 60 football pitches), sited on good quality agricultural land. It will run from the top of the valley ridge down into the valley. The site borders and dissects two ancient woodlands along the southern boundary. RES claim the proposal would deliver ‘up to 20MW of electricity’ (we believe this is a significant overestimate).
